Six Reasons to be Thankful You're Single

Whether the weather has reported it yet or not, the holiday season is officially here! Let's face it - this is the toughest time of year to be single. But fear not, single friends! There are some plusses to being minus a "plus one" this time of year.

1. Football Season
Ladies, I don't know about you, but I was thrilled when I realized that the opening of football season came and went without me being the wiser. This year I do not have to pick a team, soothe a bad loser, or clean up after the big game. And guys, you don't have to apologize for your raucous team spirit, spending too much time with your buddies, or miss that awesome play because you were too busy trying to explain football to your gal. Go team!

2. In-laws
Hallelujah! There will be no obligatory - and let's face it, awkward - visits to the in-laws this year. Nor will there be any squabbles about whose family you'll be spending the holidays with. Count your blessings!

3. Permission to Flirt
Go ahead, flirt with that cutie ahead of you in the Starbucks line! If nothing else, it'll help pass the time while waiting for that yummy eggnog latte. Better yet, strike up a conversation with that brunette you've been eyeing in the elevator at work. You've got nothing to lose, and you might just meet someone interesting!

4. Gift-Giving
Let's face it. The holidays are an expensive time of year. Being single is kind to your wallet. There are no expensive gifts to buy to show how much you care, nor is there any pressure to get that oh-so-perfect gift (we know, guys, we're high maintenance when it comes to your holiday gift!). Why not stash some of that cash in your savings account, or better yet, indulge on something for yourself?!

5. Time with friends and family
Remember, the holidays are not just a romantic time. Make time this year for catching up with old friends, spending quality time with family, and maybe making new friends, too! You never know who'll show up at your buddy's egg nog party. Where's the mistletoe?!

6. Possibilities
Unlike your coupled up friends who know who they're kissing at midnight on New Year's Eve, your dance card is wide open. Revel in the possibilities! Ladies, wear that slinky red cocktail dress or guys, put on that Tom Cruise flirt, and dance like nobody's watching. Celebrate your fabulous self, and imagine the possibilities for the coming year!
