Online Dating Safety Tips
Many of us know there are imposters out there: Liars and cheaters and such. They can be found anywhere: in nightclubs, the Post Office, dating services, parties, or at an Oakland Raiders game. Dating is never risk-free, but with a little caution you will reduce your risk and feel safe when dating online, or dating offline.
1. Guard your anonymity
All correspondence in IJC takes place through the application, ensuring your true identity is protected until you decide to reveal it. IJC members will only see your 'username' and photo. Never include your first and last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work or any other identifying information in your profile or initial messages.
2. Meet in a safe place
When you choose to meet offline, never arrange for your date to pick you up at home. Provide your own transportation, and meet in a public place at a time with many people around. I recommend a crowded artsy coffeeshop, at a time when a lot of other people will be present. Meeting at Target can be fun for a first date, too. If you decide to move to another location, take your own car.
Park your car in a space that's easily seen by many. If you're intuition is telling you something is wrong, tell your date you got to go and say goodbye. Pretend you have to use the restroom and call your friend.
Go with your gut when you are having coffee. And, if the other person's vibe feels strange to you, fake a cell phone call, and tell that person something suddenly came up.
All the best,
