The Power Gaining Momentum
As we all learned in preschool, momentum is equal to velocity times mass. But how can we
apply this knowledge to the dating world? How can we use it in the business of life? I am
grateful that I learned how to gain momentum. I love creating that feeling: The feeling of
being unstoppable. A person that has momentum can say almost anything to anyone, and get
away with it. It is a temporary, yet powerful, confidence that is created by repeatedly
acting with courage and determination.
Here are some ways I like to conjure up momentum:
Gumption
Consciously making the choice to repeatedly act with courage and determination - gumption -
is one way to spark momentum. For example, if you want dating momentum, striking up
conversations daily with strangers at a bookstore or coffee house when it feels unnatural;
Or, making the first phone call to that attractive Internet stranger, are examples of
courage. Doing it again day after day with different strangers is an example of
determination.
Gumption is a choice. It is affirming that you have decided to "feel the fear and do it
anyway". It is making the choice to pat yourself on the back for taking action, regardless
of the results. To kick start momentum, take at least one risk per day in the area that you
are targeting abundance.
New Clothes
Something about a new piece of clothing helps invoke a sense of momentum. I
experience a renewed feeling when I get something new. Clothing alone
does not spark momentum for me. But it does contribute; Especially during the winter when I
can wear a scarf. A Charlie Brown scarf is a strong momentum builder. That alone can spark momentum.
Practicing Honesty and Integrity
There is something about the practice of being genuine and honest that creates momentum.
Perhaps it is the confidence gained from being a stand up person that gives some of us the
courage to push through our fears: The practice of acting with integrity reinforces and supports a core sense of
worthiness. You do not have to be perfect at it. Just practice, and notice the momentum starting to creep up.
So there you have it. We were taught in kindergarten that momentum is the
Noether charge of translational invariance, and now we have some tips to create that feeling on
command:
- Take at least one risk a day in the area you are targeting abundance in.
- Buy a Charlie Brown scarf
- Practice the art of integrity
All the best,
Matt the Barista
